Use Desktop as application

Would like to have icons on the desktop rather than have locked down to a particular application.  I've got a variety of sources like TV (windows media center), browsers, documents, images, google maps, etc.  

Can I do this?

You may be able to accomplish your goal using an application called CircleDock (application launching utility) in combination with Secure Lockdown. Just preconfigure CircleDock and run it as your Secure Lockdioown master application.
