Local Drives or Not?

7 years ago
#3784 Quote
The multi-application manual says, "No Local Drives - When enabled Secure Lockdown blocks access to the A, B, and C drives when attempting to access the file system.... An user can, however, access drives beyond the C drive when the No Local Drives option is unchecked."

These two statements are inconsistent!

Which is it?

Does No Local Drives lock down all drives (A-Z) or not?

N.B., whichever the answer is, please correct the manual.

Following up, how do I disable access to Drives A, B and C without disabling access to Drive L (where I've put user libraries) and external drives (such as CD's, DVD's and USB flash drives)?

For security purposes, drives A, B, C are blocked and hidden regardless of the "No Local Drives" option choice. If you create other partitions on the system, such as "L:\", those will be available if the "No Local Drives" option is disabled.

I suggest the manual be revised to say exactly that:

{
"No Local Drives" will disable all logical drives. For security purposes, drives A, B and C are blocked and hidden regardless of the "No Local Drives" option choice. If you create other partitions on the system, such as for user libraries, those will only be available if the "No Local Drives" option is not selected.

Can I update the installed software remotely?

Or do the workstations download updates automatically?

Yes, you can update Secure Lockdown to the latest build by signing into our website and using the Remote Management Service (My account > Manage Devices). Here you can press the updated icon for all devices you want to update. It will not do it automatically.

Can you tell me where the "updated" icon is?

I see User  Status, Last Update, Secure Lockdown Options, Device Options, Settings, and History. "Last Update" says 13 days but I haven't done any updates. Both workstations were powered down when I checked. Thank you.

It's a cloud icon you'll see when you drill down into the Device Information page under the "Secure Lockdown Options" column.
