Automatic update failing due to Kiosk Mode preventing desktop icon to remove

Hi,

I have a desktop app running in a kiosk mode which has automatic update functionality integrated into the application using wyupdate. For some reason when the application runs under kiosk mode it fails to update the application saying

Warning 1909: could not create shortcut Application.lnk
Error 1321: The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file Application.lnk

But if we remove it form the kiosk mode and run the automatic update it works fine and desktop icons gets updated fine too. So it has to be some thing with the kiosk software that is preventing the accessibility of the desktop icon.

Any help would be much appreciated since the software is already installed in more than 200 computers it is hard to login to each computer and change the settings.

Thanks

Can the installer be changed not to install the shortcut to the Desktop? There is usually an option to do that. Secure Lockdown locks the Desktop.

I have made the installer not to install the desktop icon anymore still the old installed applications have the desktop icons which are already locked.  So the uninstaller does not have access to uninstall the desktop icon which is why my major updates are failing with
Error 1321: The installer has insufficient privileges to modify the file Application.lnk

If it was only few tablets I would have logged in and delete those icons manually but there are 100s of laptops failing on those updates.

The only likely workaround at this point is to delete the shortcut. You could create a script that disables Secure Lockdown, deletes the shortcut, then enables Secure Lockdown again.

I would love to create a script. Is there a help or a sample script that you could provide to enable disable lock down ?

You can use the command line option to do so. You can find the syntax in the Secure Lockdown - Administrator Guide which is included in the installation.

I work with Bishwash and have a question.  We have the following settings unchecked on all tablets we have the kiosk software on.  "No Desktop" and "No Desktop Icon".  Wouldn't these settings prevent us from having the issues we are currently having?

No. Secure Lockdown locks whatever is on the Desktop so it cannot be modified by the end-user. The "No Desktop Icons" feature simply hides the icons. It does not remove them. The "No Desktop" feature removes the entire Desktop shell.
