Blank screen Using Microsoft UI- Previously working perfectly

Hi

I purchased secure lockdown earlier this year and have been using it since with no problems- It is running on a windows 8.1 machine using the microsoftUI- It was set to no desktop icons and a limited number of apps on the start menu- last week it started to malfunction and once logged in -there was only a blank desktop and the start menu could not be accessed - The windows button in the left bottom corner disappeared- so you could not flick between desktop or start-If you pointed the mouse at where the windows icon normally was it would flash up briefly but could not be selected

I tried reinstalling secure lockdown with no luck- I then decided to restore the system to 2 weeks earlier-This solved the problem until windows automatically installed updates again- the problem vanished so I assumed it was a windows update that was causing the problem- Unfortunately I forgot to switch off auto updates and 3 days later the problem was back

I tried to restore again today to the same restore point as last time but this time it did not work- I then looked on your forums and saw that it may be good to try reinstalling secure lockdown with the latest version -I did this but it still malfunctioned as before.

I then decided to try upgrading the machine to windows 10- I did this but now have a different problem (may be the same but shows differentl)y. Once secure lockdown is initiated and you log out then in again - The screen goes black and just sits there - There is no start button at all -although there seems to be disk activity- however I waited 10 minutes and the screen stayed black-still no start button/menu - However if I do shift+alt+S the secure lockdown menu comes upand I can get in again to disable secure lockdown - the machine then behaves normally again.

Can you please give me some indication of how to rectify this problem- Should it work on windows 10? also if I want to revert to windows 8.1 - what do I need to do once I have windows 8.1 back - ie do I need to install all the latest microsoft updates and the latest lockdown version or do I need to prevent certain updates from being installed?

Any help would be much appreciated

Thanks

You should be able to use your setup with Windows 10. You might consider creating a new Admin account and re-configure Secure Lockdown on it. The past Windows Updates should not cause a problem, but it is recommended that you turn that feature off before locking down the system as Windows Updates can overwrite Secure Lockdown configuration settings.

Hi, Sorry for delayed response, I have tried as you suggested , setting up a new admin account on windows 10. Before i enable secure lockdown the apps /shortcuts I want appear on my start menu- ie when I click the windows Icon in the bottom left- The apps appear under life at a glance .As soon as secure lockdown is invoked -the apps disappear completely so I am unable to access them .

Again I have uninstalled and reinstalled Secure lookdown

thanks in advance

The apps must be installed for the "Current User" and not for all users. Those apps installed for all users will not appear in the start menu.
