Imageing Process

Hello,

I have completed the steps to auto-register for an image but I wanted to check one thing before I conclude the exercise.

If I reboot the machine prior to image creation, does this mess up the process? If so, do I need to delete all of the parameters before rebooting the machine? I have a couple updates that need the PC to be restarted, we will also need to shut down the machine to send to our imaging team. I want to make sure throughout this process everything will remain functional.

Lastly, I do not want the computer to boot up locked down but I do want lockdown running on boot up. So for step 6 "Set up Secure Lockdown to Run and Enable Itself on Startup", I removed the "enable <Secure Lockdown password" piece from the parameter.

Key Name: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Value Name: “SecureLockdownAutoRegistration” (String Value)
Value Data: “C:\Program Files (x86)\Inteset\Secure Lockdown\IntesetSecureLockdownV2.exe”

Will this start lockdown but leave it disabled until the user is ready to enable it?

Thanks,
Chris

Please see Build an OS Image with Automatic Product Activation > Step 7 of the Administrator Guide. You cannot reboot the machine before the OS image is created. If you do, you'll need to re-enter Step 3 and possibly Step 4 (if used) as the application will delete these entries upon activation. You also need to deactivate the license that was improperly activated (see Step 7).

Yes, you can start Secure Lockdown with no "Enable" parameter as you've suggested.

Okay, two questions than:

1) For testing, can I reboot the machine to make sure that it does auto-register and everything as it is supposed to, and than re-enter the missing parameters again? or will that mess everything up?

2) Can the machine be shut down? Meaning, once the correct parameters are in place can the machine be shut down to send to imaging. They will not need to boot to windows to create the image so the registration will not complete. Is that an accurate statement?

Thanks

Yes, for testing, you can reboot, but make sure to deactivate the license that gets used when testing. Yes, you can just shut down the machine if creating the image is done without booting to Windows.
